The Essence of Harmony Tai Chi

Harmony Tai Chi is an inclusive, all-ages practice that focuses on the holistic integration of the mind, body, and spirit. It functions as a sophisticated “all-in-one” system, merging the meditative grace of Yang, the explosive power of Chen, and the nimble agility of Wu into a single, efficient form.

This synthesized approach saves practitioners the years required to study these styles separately, allowing them to progress more rapidly toward advanced internal work. By streamlining these traditional techniques, students can focus their energy on the higher-level cultivation of the three Tan Tiens to achieve deeper health and philosophical insights.

When beginning any movement, yoga, Taichi or Gigong practice it is traditional to start by practicing these foundation exercises (video below). These are used to loosen and open up the various joints of the body, allowing blood, energy, and body fluids to pass through the joints with ease. When practiced regularly, you will experience more graceful movements, minimized joint strain, and increased strength and energy. Moreover, physical and emotional stressors are released during short routines such as this. Start by tapping the trunk, arms, and legs to activate energy and awaken lymphatic circulation. Move on to loosening the joints by circling each joint of the body, then finally bouncing and shaking the body for bone and muscle strengthening. These exercises should be performed with ease and can easily be modified to accommodate weak or painful joints.
